GO-GO USE BIG FOURTH QUARTER TO TOP KNICKS AND EARN WEEKEND SWEEP

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Capital City Go-Go (2-0), the NBA G League affiliate of the Washington Wizards, defeated the Westchester Knicks (0-2), 98-88, on Saturday night to sweep the weekend back-to-back. The win gave Capital City its first ever 2-0 start to a season.

The tightly-contested affair saw seven lead changes and six ties in the first half alone, as neither team gained more than an eight-point advantage. Westchester eventually carried a 47-43 lead into the break behind 30 combined points between Aamir Simms and Brandon Williams.

Westchester used a late third quarter run to take the first double-digit lead of the game, pushing its lead to as many as 13 with just 1:11 to play in the frame. Capital City responded with a 6-0 run to close the quarter and tighten the gap.

Trailing by seven with 10:05 to play, Capital City went on a 13-2 run to take a four-point advantage into the closing minutes of the game. Westchester pushed back and tied the game at 84, but a 12-2 run by the Go-Go closed the game out. Capital City outscored Westchester 35-18 in the final frame, led by 26 points combined from Joel Ayayi (9), Jordan Schakel (9) and Jordan Goodwin (8). The Go-Go shot 60% from the field in the fourth and made 7-of-8 free throws in the process.

Jordan Goodwin again led all scorers with 29 points to go along with eight rebounds. Jaime Echenique notched his second-consecutive double-double with 13 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks. Joel Ayayi had 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the effort, while Jordan Schakel (13) and Craig Sword (10) each played crucial minutes down the stretch in the victory.

Westchester was led by Brandon Williams’ 28-point effort, also adding five rebounds and six assists. Aamir Simms scored 17 points and secured 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Tyler Hall (14) and Lydell Elmore (10) each scored in double-figures as well.

Capital City will continue its Showcase Cup chase with a pair of games at Long Island this coming week, beginning with a 7:00 p.m. tip on Wednesday, November 10 and finishing with another on Friday, November 12.

Westchester will continue its road trip, going north of the border for two against Raptors 905 on November 11 and 12.
