Jared Butler Can Make Anything Look Good

By Capital City Go-Go Staff /October 4, 2023

Jared Butler is getting settled in DC since signing a two-way with the Wizards and Capital City Go-Go. He’s enjoying getting to know the nation’s capital and all the diversity it has to offer. We sat down with the former Baylor Bear to discuss his feelings on fashion, tunnel fits, and the opportunity to walk in the upcoming Wizards Style Showcase on October 4th.

How has your fashion/style transformed throughout your time as a player?

It’s definitely ebbed and flowed. In college you don’t have too much money to spend on a lot of clothes, and once you get into the professional space you have more resources so now you have to really figure out an identity. I’m big on comfortability, feeling comfortable but at the same time keeping it simple. But [also] with a touch of pop and certain things that kind of represent my style. So that’s been my thing.

Does where you live impact your style?

Yeah, in a place like DC where it’s multicultural, so many different pieces, I think it definitely influences how I’m going to dress for sure.

Have you noticed anything specific about DC fashion that’s stood out to you?

I think it’s just so diverse. I mean, you’ve got so many different cultures coming together, it’s like one big melting pot. So, I’ve seen a little bit here and there. Even just different neighborhoods have their own different influence. So, it’s been cool to see.

What makes a good tunnel fit?

Dang, there’s so many different aspects of it, but a good tunnel fit for me is one I feel comfortable in, like I feel like I am not wearing a suit or anything like that. And then I would say good color coordination, if the colors have a nice flow to it, that’s my thing, I guess.

What kind of thought do you put into choosing an outfit on a gameday?

It depends on how I’m feeling. If I’m tired, then I am just wearing sweats and whatever. But if I have a little extra time and I packed some extra clothes that I really like, I might put in some time and effort in and whatever I think flows.

Do you have any new teammates you are looking to learn from?

I think Corey Kispert, I am going to see what he puts on. I like his comfortability, his, you know, sleek old money look. I like that.

Are there any trends going on right now that you love?

Not that I know of. I do like the big shoelaces, that has been kind of a trend lately, I like that a lot.

What are you most excited for when it comes to walking in the show?

Honestly to see all the guys dress, see what they have been able to put together. I think this is a cool thing, it is the first time I’ve ever been a part of something like this. Being part of a fashion show, I’m going to feel like a model. That’s going to be pretty cool.

What do you think your personal style shows others about you?

That I can make anything look good, laughs, that’s what I think.

Is there anything you want people to know about you and your style?

I don’t take it way too seriously. It’s not a make or break for me. But I do think it’s a fun little thing that you can do and show your personality and show who you are as a person.

See Butler and his teammates walk in the Style Showcase presented by Michelob ULTRA on October 4th. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster, proceeds benefit the Monumental Sports and Entertainment Foundation.
