For Eugene Omoruyi, Tunnel Fits Are All About Comfort
By Capital City Go-Go Staff /October 4, 2023

Eugene Omoruyi is the new guy in town, signing a two-way contract with the Wizards and Capital City Go-Go after playing with Detroit and OKC last season. The Canadian-native, who played at Rutgers and Oregon in college, sat down with us to discuss his feelings on fashion, tunnel fits, and the opportunity to walk in the upcoming Wizards Style Showcase on October 4th.
Take us on what your fashion journey has been throughout your time as a player
I would say I got into fashion when I was in college, and then getting into the NBA has allowed me to broadcast it and put different fits together. It just shows how I’m feeling that day. I’m not a guy that presets my fits days before, I’m more a guy who picks my fits on the day of the game.
So on a gameday, what factors make you choose the fits you wear?
Believe it or not, it’s probably [dependent] on the weather. The weather, and also location, whatever city I’m in. I just choose a fit that just matches the vibe and allows me to embrace who I am through putting fits together. It’s my art.
Since you’ve played a couple different places, do you think where you’re living has an impact on your choice of style at all?
I wouldn’t say it has a big impact. I feel like it’s more on how I was brought up and where I was brought up from. I’m a Canadian, so I put fits together that I know are really in trend back home. Keeping my style simple, but knowing it fits me.
What do you think makes a good tunnel fit?
I’m always big on just being comfortable. Being comfortable, but also being stylish and standing out. I feel like not every fit can match with me, that may match with someone else. I like to put fits together that allow me to feel good in my skin and allow me to be seen as a fashionista, if you’d want to say that.
Do you have any closet staples that you always feel confident in?
Yeah graphic tees always. Graphic tees and some jeans can always be a backup. But I feel like if you want to step out, my stepping out fit is usually some varsity jackets, cargo pants, different shoes, different styles, different colors that a lot of people that are my size wouldn’t even try. But I just like putting fits on that I feel comfortable in and that I really like.
Are there any trends right now that you’re really loving and hoping to tap into this season?
I try not to follow too many trends, I just kind of like being comfortable in what I like. But I am stepping out of that box a bit to try and step into the new trends like the Gallery Depts and all that, the Supremes and all that. But I’m big on just what I like, if I see it and it’s what I like I’ll get it and I'll put it together.
Do you have any new teammates that you’re hoping to get some style tips from?
*Laughs* Yeah, we’ll see what Kuz got. We’ll see what he’s got in the closet. We’ll see what JP (Jordan Poole) got.
What are you most excited for in walking in the show?
I just want to see everyone's fits. I want to see what everyone's fashion senses are, and I’d love to show them mine.
Are you planning on taking any big fashion risks this season?
I was thinking about that, you know. I think I might, we’ll see. Maybe one or two, but that’ll be later in the season.
Is there anything else that you want people to know about you and your style?
I’m very simplistic, but at the same time it’s something different that not everyone's going to be in tune with.
See Omoruyi and his teammates walk in the Style Showcase presented by Michelob ULTRA on October 4th. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster, proceeds benefit the Monumental Sports and Entertainment Foundation.
