Bernard Scores Career-High in Capital City Go-Go Opening Night Victory

The Capital City Go-Go defeated the Maine Celtics 137-127 at the Entertainment and Sports Arena to open the season.

The Go-Go and Celtics were neck-and-neck in the first quarter, but the Celtics got off to an early lead with an 8-0 run to start the second. Down by as much as 16 points, the Go-Go bounced back to bring the score within three points, 68-65, to end the half. The Go-Go kept a fast pace throughout the night and topped 100 points before the start of the fourth quarter. The team was efficient, shooting 52.2% from the field, 48.4% from three and 86.4% from the free throw line. The Go-Go went on to defeat the Celtics, 137-127, in the team’s sixth-highest scoring game in franchise history.

Jules Bernard led the night with a career-high 30 points for Capital City. Bernard also secured his third career double-double with 10 rebounds. Hamidou Diallo was the team’s second-highest scorer with a 28-point, 10-rebound performance in his Go-Go debut. The Go-Go had seven players score in double figures, including all five starters (Bernard, Diallo, Devon Dotson (18), John Butler Jr. (14) and Michael Foster Jr (11)) and Go-Go returnees DeJon Jarreau (11) and Davion Mintz (11) off the bench. Dotson and Diallo led the team in assists with five each.

The Celtics were led in scoring and assists by JD Davison, who finished the night with 23 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Kylor Kelley led the team in rebounds with nine boards.

The Go-Go will face the reigning NBA G League champions, the Delaware Blue Coats, for their next game on Monday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.
